Southwest Showdown Boys Recap
Gilbert, AZ – Our first annual event held at Inspire Courts in Arizona, that attracted some of the best talent in the Southwest area & beyond. With all the talent on hand, we focused on six up and coming players that should be on your radar before summer hits.
Championship Game: Elevate Your Game 87, Ak-Chin 33
Micah Lena – Elevate Your Game – 6’5″ W/F – 2018 – MVP – Best player at the event, versatile player with size. Can play inside or out. Smooth, moves fluidly. Can shoot the 3 and finish down low back to the basket. Uses ball fakes to displace defenders. Will play JC basketball year at Redland Community College.
Nick Harrison – Gila River – 5’8″ SG – 2021 – Knockdown shooting guard. When he gets the ball going downhill in transition especially with his right hand, mark it down, it’s a bucket. Knocks down tough shot after tough shot. As he matures it will be important for him to develop his perimeter skills more but for now he’s a treat to watch.
Kaveon Sharp – Elevate Your Game – 6’1″ PG – 2020 – Was routinely impressed with the maturity of his game, he did so many little things well, especially from a player only in 10th grade. He’s already long and deceptively athletic. He was so versatile that defensively he was guarding the post all the while playing PG on offense one game. One to keep a eye on.
Brady Ramon – Team Blaze – 5’10” CG – 2021 – Another player who’s game was much more mature than his age was Brady Ramon. The thing that impressed me was his use of ball fakes and his ability to read defense. This ability lead to him almost always taking the best possible shot he could, whether it was a 3, a mid range pull up or setting up a teammate.
David Gongales-Tiger – AZ Outlaws – 5’9″ PG – 2018 – Bouncy point guard with jets, David really showed off some nice moves and an explosive change of speed/direction. He shot the ball well in some games and defensively was active on the ball and off which lead to a bunch of steals. Surprisingly athletic.
Austin Schultheis – Three Nations – 6’4″ W – 2018 – Crafty wing who has some high level experience. Not afraid to make the big play or take the big shot. Great at attacking from all three levels. Long and lanky 6’4″ frame that will fill out nice. Holds college offers.
