Milan Schimmel & Makayla Vannett Growing more Comfortable in Roles at Hutchinson Community College

The No. 13-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team is returning home for a much-needed break from its road trip.

While the Blue Dragon women have toyed with their opponents, winning by 20 or 30 points in every matchup, head coach John Ontjes is in search of improvement at the end of quarters.

Another main goal for the HCC women is solidifying the point guard position and growing more comfortable. Hutchinson has three new players in the starting lineup in Abby Ogle, Milan Schimmel, and Makayla Vannett.

“I still think we’re trying to figure each other out,” Ontjes said. “We’re getting more comfortable. We’re trying to figure out personnel and who fits well together.”

Makayla VanNett is second in scoring with 13.4 points, two assists, one rebound through five games this season. VanNett has proven to be a go-to scorer for the Blue Dragons knocking down nearly three 3’s per game while shooting 42.4 percent.

Milan Schimmel is having a solid freshman year across the board with 9.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals per contest. Schimmel is shooting 56.8 from the field.
