Southwest Showdown Girls Recap
Gilbert, AZ – Our first annual event held at Inspire Courts in Arizona, that attracted some of the best talent in the Southwest area & beyond. With all the talent on hand, we focused on six up and coming players that should be on your radar before summer hits.
Tiffany Quigley – 5′11 W/F – 2020 – NN Elite – High motor, Tiffany can step out and hit the 3 ball. She’s a typical high school “4” player who shouldn’t have too hard of a time making the transition to a college wing. Her toughness was an attribute that truly stood out to me. Great rebounder.
MacKenzie Kinsel – 5’7 PG – 2018 – Run N’ Gun – Kinsel is a fast guard with nice handles, who does a great job of creating for herself and others. On Saturday she was efficient attacking the basket and scoring or creating shots for her teammates. Signed with NAIA school.
Samantha Quigley – 5’11 W – 2019 – NN Elite – Sam, who I’ve seen play numerous times is smooth. She does a great job scoring in transition and has a good mid range game. She’s got great length at the guard spot and her stock should continue to rise this summer.
Nizhoni James – 5’7 PG – 2020 – NN Elite – On a deep NN Elite team, McMillan stood out with her ability create and make plays. She’s got a great understanding of change of speed and change of direction, which allows her to constantly take defenders off the bounce. She had some nice finishes around the basket and her ability to make plays really stood out.
Beyonce Cutter – 5’8 CG – 2018 – NEW E.R.A. – Cutter was one of the top athletes and one of the best defensive players in the event. Great understanding of how to play the game. Her release is also super quick and with her length getting shots off is never a problem. Unsigned senior would be a solid pick-up for schools out there.
Justine Cooper – 5’5 PG – 2019 – Dream Catchers – One of the higher IQ PGs I watched at the event, Cooper had great poise at running the show for her team and providing a calming presence. Skilled and efficient, she was one of my favorite players to watch on Sunday.
