Women’s Basketball to Host Eagles for Nike N7 Game

DURANGO, Colo. – The first home games of the season have arrived for the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team as they will host Northern New Mexico tonight, which will also be part of the Nike N7 games presented by Sean McCabe, CPA. They will close the week on Friday against the University of the Southwest.

FLC (0-2) started off with a pair of tough losses, but just as easily could be 2-0 following a pair of losses in the final minutes. A couple of late three-pointers by Western New Mexico helped the Mustangs rally to win in overtime, 70-68, and then the next night against Eastern New Mexico, the Greyhounds used a big fourth quarter to hold on for a 58-55 victory.

The Skyhawks will face Northern New Mexico tonight starting at 5:30 p.m. Last year the two teams met for the Nike N7 on Nov. 16 and FLC rolled to a 105-51 victory. Kayla Herrera and Jordan Carter tallied 13 points apiece, as the Skyhawks shot a blistering 60 percent (39-65), went 8-10 (80) from three and 19-21 (91) from the foul line.

FLC averages 61.5 points per game and allows 64.0 per game. The Skyhawks are connecting on 37 percent (44-118) from the field and 10-36 (28) from three. Opponents are making 36 percent (38-106) and 13-40 (33) from three.

Northern New Mexico is 1-5 overall and have lost five straight since a season-opening win against University of the Southwest (64-50). Melanie Secody leads the team at 11.7 points per game, while Cheyenne Cordova adds 9.5 and Jazlynn Muniz with 9.0 per game. Katelyn Yuzos leads the team at 5.2 rebounds per game.

FLC will close the week against the University of the Southwest on Friday, also at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs are 2-4 overall on the season and have lost two straight since a 76-73 win over Northern New Mexico.
