College of Ozarks topple Haskell, 81-60

Haskell fell at home against College of the Ozarks in Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday in an 81-60 home victory. Haskell Indian Nations University was receiving votes in the NAIA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll prior to the game.

It was expected a tough battle and it proved to be so from the start. Both teams started off cold from the field, with CofO shooting just 22% from the field and Haskell only a bit warmer at 28%. Three pointers were the difference, as CofO went 3-7 and Haskell was just 1-7. CofO held a 19-11 lead after one.

The College of Ozark heated up in the second quarter, shooting 50% from the field and from three-point range. Haskell shot 40% from the field and 50% from three. Turnovers marked the difference, with Haskell turning the ball over twelve times to just four for CofO. Halftime found CofO with a 39-25 advantage.

Haskell pulled to with ten before CofO’s lead grew to 24. Haskell shot a staggering 54% from the field in the quarter to 44% for the Lady Cats. CofO closed the quarter maintaining a fourteen-point lead, 59-45.

The fourth quarter featured nearly-even shooting, 49% for CofO and 48% for Haskell. CofO outscored the Lady Indians 22-15 in the quarter for a 81-60 final score. 

The loss drops Haskell to 16-7 (2-2) on the season.  Lady Indians will host Cottey College on Wednesday.
