RaeQuan Battle & the Bobcats Fall to Grand Canyon in Season Opener
The Montana State men’s basketball team put together a near perfect first half and carried a 36-19 halftime lead against the Grand Canyon Antelopes, yet the Lopes (1-0) bounced back by shooting 58.6% in the second half to hand the Bobcats a 60-54 loss on opening night.
“I thought they were the aggressors in the second half and we were the aggressors in the first half,” Montana State head coach Danny Sprinkle said. “The game came down to the fact that we couldn’t stop any of their runs and we missed a bunch of good looks that could’ve stymied their runs.”
RaeQuan Battle, from the Tulalip Indian Resveration, added 8 points while contributing five rebounds, two assists. The 6’5″ combo guard put his athleticism on full display with a big time transition dunk early in the second half.
“I thought we didn’t lose our poise in the first half,” Sprinkle said. “We did a really good job at getting open shots, but we just weren’t making them.”
A string of six empty MSU possessions late in the game nearly proved to be the difference as the Lopes held on to win 60-54. MSU’s road trip continues next Sunday, November 13 at Long Beach State. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. MT.
