The Washington Football Team Bans Headdresses and Face Paint from FedEx Field

The Washington Football Team will no longer allow fans to wear “Native American-inspired ceremonial headdresses or face paint” at home games, the team announced on Wednesday. The Washington Football Team had no choice but to drop the racist nickname “Redskins” after severe financial loss.

This comes nearly a year after Washingtons owner Daniel Snyder previously said the franchise would “NEVER” change its team name. “NEVER,” Snyder said at the time. “You can use all caps.”

The team plans the unveil its new name before the 2022 NFL Draft.

“We’ve made significant changes in our organization and our culture, and our new name must reflect these changes,” team president Jason Wright said last month. To that end, we will choose an identity that unequivocally departs from any use of or approximate linkage to Native American imagery.”
