Mariah Stacona adds 13 points with 5 assists in loss to No. 10 ranked Southern Oregon Raiders
ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 10 ranked Southern Oregon Raiders proved to be too much for the shorthanded Eagles as they pulled away for a 96-67 Cascade Conference victory. SOU improves to 18-1 overall and 10-1 in the Cascade Conference.
Kalee Fowler kept the Eagles in the game in the first half with 11 points on 50% shooting from the field. The Raiders got 12 points from Remi Mejia and 10 from Ariel Augustine as they would shoot 50% for the half as a team and would take a 33-21 lead in a high scoring first quarter. The defenses would settle in as the scoring would go down in the second period with SOU holding an 18-16 margin for a 51-37 halftime lead.
Using 12 players and their depth, Southern Oregon would slowly pull away from the Eagles playing with nine players again today. SOU would take a 15 point, 55-40 lead with 7:44 remaining in the third quarter, but a 3-pointer by Andie Kristinat and a single free throw by Miranda Langenhorst would cut the Raider lead to 57-47 with 6:18 left on the clock. But the No. 10 Raiders would outscore NU 16-3 to increase their lead to 73-50 with 55 seconds left in the quarter.
The Eagles would not be able to make up any ground in the fourth quarter and Southern Oregon would continue to build their lead. With 4:11 left in the game, a Raider 3-pointer would push their lead to 26 points, 87-61, but Andie Kristinat would answer with a 3-pointer of her own to make it a 87-64 game at the 3:23 mark. SOU would outscore the Eagles 9-3 the remainder of the game for the 96-67 victory.
Four players scored in double figures for Northwest U (6-14, 3-8 CCC) with Kristinat leading the way with 19 points, hitting 6 of 12 3-point attempts for 50% shooting from outside the arc. Kalee Fowler and Miranda Langenhorst each scored 14 points with Langenhorst pulling down 9 rebounds. Mariah Stacona added 13 points with 5 assists.
For Southern Oregon (18-1, 10-1 CCC), Remi Mejia scored 19 points adding 9 assists with Ariel Augustine adding 14 points. Sophia Altemus had a game high 11 rebounds along with 9 points for the Raiders who shot 49% for the game. SOU dominated the rebounding column with a 52-31 edge and 23 offensive rebounds.
